10 things to know about Anna Hazare 'n Jan Lok Pal Bill.. !

1. Who is Anna Hazare?

An ex-army man. Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War

2. What's so special about him?

He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra

3. So what?

This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills.

In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.

4. Ok,...?

This guy, Anna Hazare was awarded Padma Bhushan and is a known figure for his social activities.

5. Really, what is he fighting for?

He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India.

6. How that can be possible?

He is advocating for a Bil, The Jan Lokpal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?

In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit thier theft (corruption).

7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time?

The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed.

Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the JAN LOKPAL BILL. 50% goverment participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?

A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result.

9. Is he alone? Who else is there in the fight with Anna Hazare?

Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more.

Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause.

10. Ok, got it. What can I do?

At least we can spread the message. How?

Putting status message, links, video, changing profile pics.

At least we can support Anna Hazare and the cause for uprooting corruption from India.

At least we can hope that his Hunger Strike does not go in vain.

At least we can pray for his good health.

Difference between Lokpal Bill and Jan Lokpal Bill

Here are some of the points raised by Hazare’s group:

1. The government Bill provides for nothing to recover ill-gotten wealth. A corrupt politician or bureaucrat can come out of jail and enjoy the money. The Jan Lokpal Bill seeks to recover from the accused the loss caused to the government due to corruption. It also increases punishment for the corrupt from a minimum of six months and a maximum of seven years to a minimum of five years and a maximum of life imprisonment.

2. The Jan Lokpal Bill seeks to empower the Lokpal to initiate probe suo motu and directly entertain public complaints. The government Bill requires complaints to be routed through the Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairperson.

3. The government Bill makes the Lokpal only an advisory body, vesting powers in the Prime Minister for action on its reports against cabinet ministers and in Parliament for action against the Prime Minister and MPs. The Jan Lokpal Bill gives the Lokpal powers to initiate prosecution after completing investigations. It also gives the Lokpal police powers to register FIRs, proceed with criminal investigations and launch prosecution.

4. It would be impossible for the Prime Minister to act against a cabinet minister on the basis of the Lokpal's report due to the compulsion of coalition politics. It gives the example of former telecom minister A Raja.

5. The Jan Lokpal Bill proposes merger of the Central Vigilance Commission with a part of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to create a single point of investigation in cases of corruption. The government Bill proposes to take away powers from the CBI to investigate politicians, thereby insulating them from investigations.

6. The government Bill gives power to the Lokpal to send to jail through summary trial anybody filing false and frivolous complaints, but it does not give the Lokpal power to send corrupt politicians to jail.

Ganesh chaturthi is fast approaching and you might be excited to celebrate it with gusto. This year (2011) on September starts the gala celebrations of Ganesh chaturthi. Yes. We all celebrate. But would you like to know the spirit that makes the celebrations more meaningful?! Please read on to know!

Ganesh chaturthi is one of the grandest and most elaborate festivals that Indians celebrate. Especially in the state of Maharastra, Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated for 10 days. It begins on the fourth day of shukla chaturthi and ends on the day of ananta chaturdasi. The power of Lord Ganesha is invoked on the first day; worshipped elaborately in decorated pandals for 9 days; and on the tenth day he is bid farewell by immersing in water bodies.

But now-a-days Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated just as some mundane party or get-together, aiming only at external activities. You might have noticed such a thing in the places where mass of people sing mundane cinema songs and dance wildly without knowing what are they doing this for. There is no connection to Lord Ganesh. Some do not even know who is Lord Ganesha and what is his significance. This is sorry state of affair.

Celebrations of Ganesh chaturthi festival can be meaning only by knowing the philosophy behind Lord Ganesh and contemplating his significance in one’s life.

Significance of Lord Ganesha Hindu scriptures describe Ganesha as son of Lord Shiva, who is empowered to remove obstacles in the path of success. He is one of the five prime Hindu deities. He is worshipped at the beginning of every major venture. He is glorified in following vedic mantra:

Mushikavaahana modaka hastha,
Chaamara karna vilambitha sutra,
Vaamana rupa maheshwara putra,
Vighna vinaayaka paada namasthe

“O Lord Vinayaka! the remover of all obstacles, the son of Lord Shiva, with a form which is very short, with mouse as Thy vehicle, with sweet pudding in hand, with wide ears and long hanging trunk, I prostrate at Thy lotus-like Feet!”

Lord Ganesha should be worshipped with great reverence and respect. It is best celebrated with the spirit of enthusiasm for wisdom and knowledge. One should take resolutions on the day of Ganesha chaturthi. One should contemplate what is the goal of his or her life and how to achieve that goal. What are the obstacles on the way of your goal. What is your idea of success. Then you should pray to Lord Ganesha for help in achieving the goal. This is the real meaning of worshipping Lord Ganesha.

This is a true story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the China Earthquake.

After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.

He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement,” A child! There is a child! “

The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.

The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket. There was a text message on the screen. It said,” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. ” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” Such is the mother’s love for her child!!

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON:"Daddy, may I ask you a question?"

DAD:"Yeah sure, what is it?" replied the man.

SON:"Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"

DAD:"That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily.

SON:"I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"

DAD:"If you must know, I make Rs.100 an hour."

SON:"Oh," the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON:"Daddy, may I please borrow Rs.50?"

The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior." The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that Rs.50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

"Are you asleep, son?" He asked.

"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.

"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier" said the man.

"It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you.. Here's the Rs.50 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. "Oh, thank you daddy!" He yelled.

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

"Why do you want more money if you already have some?" the father grumbled.

"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.

"Daddy, I have Rs.100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?

Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

1. What does the word Lakshmi mean?


The word Lakshmi comes from 'laksha' means 'to aim at'. So 'Lakshmi' is that,what is sought after by all.

2. Whois Goddess Lakshmi?
· In the Puranas she is said to be the consort of Lord Narayana.
· She is the 'Adi Shakti', the eternal power of the Lord.
· She has various aspects or expressions.

3. Whoshould seek blessings from Goddess Lakshmi?
·Scriptures talk of two paths. Path of Action (Pravritti marga) and Path ofRenounciation (Nivritti marga). All those who want either pleasures orliberation, following their respective paths should seek blessings from GoddessLakshmi.

4. Howshould one following 'the Path of Action' seek goddess Lakshmi?
In Ishaavaasya Upanishad 2nd mantra it is said, 'kurvan eva iha karmaanijijivishet shatam samaah; evam tvayi naanyathetosti na karma lipyate nare'

Those who wish to desire pleasures of this world and higher worlds (heavens)should aim to live a long life of dharma, serving others.

One requires wealth to live a long life of service. Hence one must work hard toacquire wealth.

When the wealth acquired righteously is used for dharma then the actionsperformed to acquire wealth do not bind the doer with I-ness and My-ness.

5. What kind of wealth is sought after by those who follow the Path of Action?
· There are eight types of wealth described in the scriptures, called as AshtaLakshmi.

6.What are the eight types of wealth?
1) Dhana Lakshmi: Money through righteous ways
2) Dhaanya Lakshmi: Sattvik pure food to maintain health. As health is wealth.
3) Gaja Lakshmi: Cattle or vehicle.
4) Santaan Lakshmi: Good and well behaved children.
5) Vidyaa Lakshmi: Proficiency in the world
6) Dhairya Lakshmi: Courage to venture into new things and also facedifficulties.
7) Vijaya Lakshmi: Success in ones field of action
8) Aadi Lakshmi: She being the eternal power of the Lord is also the eternalsource of grace and hence when sought after one will never be denied of Herblessings.

7. InTulasi Ramayana Seetaji is worshiped as Adi Shakti.'udbhava-sthiti-samhaara-kaarinim klesha-haarinim, sarva-shreyas-karim seetaamnato ham Rama-vallabhaam.' She is the very cause of creation maintainance anddissolution of the world. When She is with Rama, She removes all the klesha(Avidya-ignorance of Self, Asmita- I-ness, Rraga-likes, Dvesha-dislikes andAbhinivesha-fear of death because of identification with the limited) andbrings ultimate good (Moksha). But the same Adi shakti, eternal power of theLord if is not with the Lord can create klesha and bring ultimate destruction.Lord Narayana pervades the world of names and forms. Hence service to all isservice to the Lord. Jana seva Jananrdan seva, nara seva Narayana Seva. Hencewealth when utilised for dharma, service to all will bring the Ultimate Good,Moksha through antahkarana shuddhi (purification of the mind).

8. Howshould one following 'the Path of Renunciation' seek goddess Lakshmi?
Ishaavaasya Upanishad in the first mantra says, 'ishaa-vaasyam idam sarvam yatkinchit jagatyaam jagat; tena tyaktena bhunjithaah maa gridha kasyaswitdhanam'.

Those who do not desire temporary pleasures of this world or the higher worldsand are the seekers of the permanent bliss should not hoard wealth and protectthemselves from the attachment to the transient.

Permanent happiness is possible only when one is able to experience The Onepervading the apparent many. To whom then the wealth belongs to when there Isnothing other then the One?

The seekers of the One, prepare themselves to walk the Path of Renunciation bycultivating the fourfold qualities such as Vivek (ability to discriminatebetween the permanent and the impermanent), Vairagya (giving up theidentification with the impermanent), Shat Sampatti (Six wealth) andMumukshutvam (desire to get liberated from the limited).

Thus the seekers of the Truth too seek blessings of Goddess Lakshmi for the'Shat Sampati', six kind of wealth.

9.What are the six types of wealth required by the seekers of the Truth?
1) Shama - Control of mind. The mind does not distract the seeker.
2) Dama - Control of senses. The seeker does not get lured by the falseglitters of the sense objects.
3) Uparati - Not persecuted by the mind and senses, the seeker is able topractice ones own dharma, 'swadhyaaya'.
4) Titikshaa - Forbearance. The seeker's knowledge of 'The Oneness' does notshake while experiencing the pairs of opposite like 'sukha-dukha' etc.
5) Shraddhaa - Faith in the words of Guru and Vedanta which helps the seeker toremain consistent till the goal is reached.
6) Samaadhaanam - Single-pointedness of mind. Where the mind rests in the One.

10.Thus whether one wants Dharma or Brahma we need the blessings of GoddessLakshmi. Worshiping Goddess Lakshmi means in adoration humbly surrender toinvoke Her grace.

11.The highest wealth is Narayana, the Poorna-the infinite. Having attained thatone becomes free from wants. Wealth without Lord Narayana makes us dependentslaves and beggars of more. Laksmiji finds Her fulfilment in being one withNarayana.

12.Gurudev once said, 'Hold on to Narayana, Lakshmi will follow.' The easiest wayto invoke Lord Narayana in kaliyuga is to chant the name of the Lord. Let usincrease the wealth of the name - 'Naam dhan kaa khajaanaa badhaate chalo apnimukti kaa maarg banaate chalo' and pave our path to liberation.

13.May Mother Lakshmi protect us and bless us with Lord Narayana, The Infinite.

Meaning Of Word 'Sai' As Explained By Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans

Sai devotees always chant the word 'Sai'. It has become a mantra for them. But very few people know its meaning.

The meaning of 'Sai' could be very well understood by reading 'Shri Ramkrishna Vachnanamrut' . One would be surprised to know that the meaning of the word is similar to the life of Sai Baba. It is more surprising that when Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans explained it, he was living in Bengal. Before we proceed to analyse the meaning of the word 'Sai', first some similarities between he lifestyle of Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans and Shirdi Sai Baba has to studied as the meaning has some relation of it.

Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans and Shirdi Sai Baba lived in almost similar ages. Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans birth was in the year 1837 and Sai Baba's birth was in the year 1838 (approximately) . Both the saints had similarities in their thoughts and teachings. Both had said that all the religions are one. People of all religion go to the same God. People of all religions should live with brotherhood following this rule. Ram of Hindus, Allah of Muslims and Jesus of Christians are one and same. People call them by such names according to their castes and creed, but in the end they are calling only one God.

Both the saints have put the same question that though there exists similarity of Gods, then why people quarrel with each other? Why do they behave live fools? So it was emphasized that people should live in unison. Though the paths are different, everybody has to go the same place. It is said that saints know each other and are one with each other.

Once Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans was seated in a room of Dakshineshwar temple. The author of famous work 'Shri Ramkrishna Vachnamrut', Shri Master Maharaj was also present. At that time, Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans had explained the meaning of 'Sai' in his pravachan, "In the opinion of power, the one who has acquired the world i.e. a Siddha Purush is said to be Koul, according to Vedant, it is Paramhans, so according to Boul Vaishnav (a sub custom of Bengal) it is called Sai. Boul Vaishnav of Bengal and Varkari of Maharastra are similar. So Sai is the last limit. When Boul's became Siddha, it is called 'Sai'. There is total indifference in this situation. The people wear a necklace of which is half made up of cow's bones and the other half is made up of tulsi (Tulsi is herb considered as auspicious as per Hindu tradition). This Siddha person follow and respect both Hindu and Muslim religion. He is 'Neer" for Hindus and a 'Peer' for Muslims.

In this way, Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans has explained the meaning of word 'Sai'. We can see the character of Sai Baba same as the meaning. Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans used to sing a bhajan "Ek Aise Bhavka Fakir Aayaa Hai, Jo Hidnuo Ka Devataa Aur Musalamano Ka Peer Hai"

One more surprising fact is that in the year 1886, Sai Baba took Samadhi for three days and in the same year, Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans had taken Samadhi. Saints only know their deeds, but there is no doubt that they both were one. They both knew each other's deeds.

Thus it is clear from this that when Sai Baba first came to Shirdi, Goddess Saraswati only spoke in the voice of Mhalsapati 'Come Sai'.
